A game of life

Playing games, hm? Apparently that is the perception
which the King and Queen make of my reasonable, as I need the time for
schoolwork, arguments why I do refuse to take part in some (yes I admit that I
consider them to be pointless and quite boring too!) family activities. How
foolish of them! Warning me not to play any of my games only angers me, as the only thing which could be considered
to be a game, in my opinion, is life itself.
Life can be compared to the Tour de France (or Formula
1, or any other sport like that, if you desire). Some are the teamplayers but
the eternal underdog; some risk it all and play it dirty ? out of pressure, or
because of sheer ambition ? and get caught (I never saw a more interesting
media circus around a Tour as during the 2007 series when a huge doping scandal
was uncovered); others never will an dget away with it. And still others
glorify on their own; using only their own abilities.
However, there is one
huge difference between life and sport. The tactics used in sports which -
although never really proved - improve people's prestations, are completely
illegal as they usually include things such as using a banned substance or (often
illegally aquired) information on the equipment of a rival.
In life however, there are not such roles, all there
is, is moral, and this is different for everyone. Thus, it is far more sublty
if one goes dirty. Of course, this makes it all far more interesting, too.
The most important lesson which we can learn from
sports, when we compare it to life is that there is not a single sportsman whom
is not driven by ambition, and so should everyone in life be too, if one
desires to reach something in life. Ambition is the key, everything else is
subjected to it.
