The road goes on and on

Posted at 07:49 AM on February 14, 2008

Today, I overheard a discussion between two girls in the school library about a friend of them whose boyfriend apparently broke up with her a few days ago. For many girls, it is easy to break down in tears over such a thing, not to crawl up again. Tears cause such a thing. The end of this is that one succumbs to self-pitying.
However, life goes on, it will not stop and wait for your 'wounds' to heal. And it is a beautiful thing that it does not. After all, if life goes on, it will distract you from whatever bothers you, and makes something come upon your path that will make you feel happy again. In a children's book written by the Dutch Irmgard Smits when she was fourteen, she wrote that life could be considered to be a road full of hills and abysses (of course, I had to translate it). There will always be something that will guide you out of an abyss, brings you back onto the road.
If we are completely honest, we know that without the painful times when we are emerged in darkest shadows, we would not be able to appriciate our happy days, when we feel the warmth of the sun upon our face and everything is bright for us, for some time.

Do not let the darker days put you down, there will always be more happy days ahead of you. It are those days which we must keep in mind as every thought of this sunlight in your life can lighten up the darkest days.
