When living in an era, it seems always quite messy and one can not clearly see a line which defines this particular era. Afterwards, however, one can notice the main line of the important things of such an era, the main line in different areas in this period, whether it is a year, a decade, or an age, that does not matter much.
One of the things which define a decade are it's icons. However, our personal favourites, we found through the decades and they can not all be gathered under one single period. Under a style, however, they can be, because our taste often can be defined as our style. Mine, in three words is: classical, feminine and elegant. Thus, my favourite periods concerning style, concerning fashion are the period from 1930 to the end of 1950, with icons such as Grace Kelly and Greta Garbo.
Style is something personal. However, of some people, we say that they lack style. This is because style is all about elegance, about wearing exactly that suist you well. Once, on a blue Monday, I wore black lipstick. I loved it, because it granted me a façade through which the people whom looked at me, would not notice me, only my looks. It granted me a sense of security. Obviously, it looked awfully on me (And no, no comments on this are needed!). However, nowadays, I know better than to wear things which look bad on me. I have a thing for ladylike, for red lipstick in thirties-style, such as Greta Garbo wore, but I won't put it on. Because it does not look right on me. This is the essence of style:
Knowing what looks good on you, and what does not, and acting after it.
