Lessons in life

Found this on my computer and I believe I have not posted this yet... Let me know whether I am right!

What is it with us people that we always looked up to something out of reach. No matter whether it are actors, musicians, writers or people in a high job, we admire them. Perhaps because we know that we are not likely to do the same as they do and thus it is safe to dream. We can mirror ourselves at them without ever being caught. However, if one thinks very deeply about what we learn from them, the answer is 'nothing'.

The real lessons in life we learn from those around us; our parents, family and friends.

Of course, stars are wonderful to look at but they mean nothing. We awe at their beauty but at the same time we know that being stunningly beautiful alone is not enough, and we return to our everyday lives, always forgetting that the same stunning beauty can be found all around us. For example, I recently found a photo back from when my grandmother (my grandaunt, actually), was about eighteen and I was suprised by how absolutely beautiful she was. Really, I wish I was that beautiful! I have always known that my grandmother is an amazing lady and I love her very much, but I had never imagined her as being as young and full of life as we are now. To me, she always was old. Stupid of course, as she was not really that old, but that is the idiocy of youth. One cannot imagine people to be different from what they are now; it is the limitation of our kind.

Beauty can be found in many things: in smiles of those around you, in the words someone speaks which just get you, in the colour of the sky, in anything; even in an old photo.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, that is what the verb says. It is only our mind that makes us see it differently. I believe this is true. For I used to be a pessimist, viewing everything from the darkest side for then it would only turn out better than I expected but it was not the right way of viewing life. Because by viewing life like that, you make your ideas come true. Imagine life to be dark and it will be dark for you. Open your eyes to the world around you and let it cheer you up. I thought that it was best, that I was born to be a pessimist but I was so wrong. I can not tell you what made me see, I do not even know myself. However, I would never be able to go back to what it was like before.

Find beauty in everything.
